Joachim Pedarnig
is an Austrian double bassist, electric bassist, and music educator. His musical activities are diverse and encompass a wide range of genres. His focus is on historically informed performance practice on the double bass and violone. He performs on a variety of large string instruments from the 16th century to the modern era, including the violone in G and D, the Viennese bass, the "Bassetl," and three- to six-string double basses in various tunings.
His active concert schedule takes him to major international stages. However, his musical output is not limited to early music: concerts in jazz, traditional music from various regions of the world, and contemporary music are also part of his artistic profile. He has participated in numerous world premieres, including as a soloist with orchestra in works by Josef Haller and Erwan Borek.
His musical training began at the Telfs Regional Music School, where he studied double bass, electric bass, piano, and voice. He then attended the Innsbruck Music Gymnasium, simultaneously completing preparatory studies at the Tyrolean State Conservatory. He continued his artistic and pedagogical training at the Mozarteum University and the Tyrolean State Conservatory in Innsbruck. Finally, he transferred to the renowned Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel to study with David Sinclair, where he earned two master's degrees.
Joachim Pedarnig aims to assume a holistic and genre-spanning role as a bassist and to distinguish himself through musical flexibility and stylistic confidence.
